Best Christmas List App (2026): One Shared List, No Duplicate Gifts
The best Christmas list app for families in 2026: how a shared Christmas list works, why reservations stop duplicate gifts, a short app comparison, and how to make one in Jinnie.
The best Christmas list app for most families in 2026 is Jinnie: each person puts gifts from any store on one list, shares a link that opens in any browser, and relatives reserve what they are buying so two people never buy the same present. It is free on the web, iPhone and Android.
How families use a shared Christmas list
The pattern is simple. Each person keeps one list, sends one link to the family chat, and everyone checks that list before they shop. Parents usually make the lists for young children. Grandparents who never install apps open the link in a browser like any other web page.
What makes it work is that the list is live. When an item sells out, the owner deletes it, and nobody has to forward a corrected screenshot. When a relative buys something, they mark it on the list instead of telling one person who then forgets to tell the others.
- Everyone in the family makes a list and posts the link once.
- Parents make each child's list in their own account and share it with grandparents, aunts and uncles.
- Secret Santa groups draw names somewhere else, then each person sends their Santa a list link.
- Couples and adult siblings keep the same link from year to year and refresh the items in November.
Why reservations matter
Duplicate gifts happen when two people both see a present nobody has bought yet, and both buy it. A notes app or a printed list cannot stop that, because it has no way to say 'taken'. A reservation can. The buyer taps the item, the list marks it Reserved for everyone else, and the next relative picks something different.
In Jinnie, other gift-givers see that an item is reserved but never who reserved it, so the buyers keep their surprises from each other too. From the web, reserving takes a name, an email address and one tap on a confirmation link. Relatives who have the app reserve inside it. Reservations can be cancelled if plans change.
Amazon's list solves the same problem a different way: it marks an item purchased when someone orders it from the list on Amazon. That works well until a relative buys the same thing in a shop or on another site, which Amazon cannot see. A reservation works wherever the gift is bought.
The list owner is kept out too. Jinnie hides reservations from you by default, in the app, on the web and on your own link while you are signed in, so opening your list in December spoils nothing. If you would rather know what is covered, turn on "Show reserved items" in settings; you still never see who reserved what. Parents running a child's list from their own account often turn it on.

How to make a Christmas list in Jinnie
For a child's list, follow the same steps in a parent's account and name the list after the child. If you want a paper version too, print our Christmas list template, fill it in with your child, then add the gifts to Jinnie so relatives can reserve them.
- Install Jinnie on iPhone or Android, or sign in at jinnie.co with Google or Apple.
- Create a list. In the app, go to the Profile tab, open Wishlist Management and tap New. Name it something like 'Christmas 2026' and set List visibility to Public so anyone with the link can open it, or Friends to limit it to your Jinnie friends.
- Add gifts. On the Home tab, tap Add Item, paste a product link from any store and wait for 'Product details loaded.' Add the size, colour or edition in the description, pick your Christmas list and tap Save.
- Save from other apps as you browse. Use the share button in Safari or Chrome on your phone, or the Jinnie Chrome extension on a computer.
- Share the list. On the Home tab, tap the share icon, then Copy Link next to your Christmas list, and paste it into the family chat.
- Your family opens the link in any browser, taps a gift and reserves it. Everyone else then sees it as Reserved.
Make a list people can actually buy from
- Mix prices. A few small gifts let everyone take part, including teenagers and colleagues.
- Write the details that matter: size, colour, model, edition. Jinnie has no separate size field, so put them in the description.
- Link to a product page, not a search results page, and check the link before you share.
- Add more ideas than you expect to receive, so the last person to shop still has a choice.
- Delete anything you bought yourself or no longer want, so nobody buys it.
What Jinnie does not do
Jinnie does not draw Secret Santa names, split the cost of a group gift, or send price-drop alerts. If your family does Secret Santa, draw names with Elfster, DrawNames or Giftster, then have each person send their Santa a Jinnie list link. Our Secret Santa questionnaire helps when the person you drew has no list at all.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Christmas list app?
For most families, Jinnie: lists take gifts from any store, the link opens in any browser, and relatives reserve what they are buying so nobody doubles up. It is free on the web, iPhone and Android. Giftster is the better pick for one private family group with kids' lists and a name draw.
Is there a free Christmas list app?
Yes. Jinnie is free with no paid plan and no in-app purchases. Giftster, GoWish and Elfster are also free on the US App Store, and Amazon's wish list is free inside your Amazon account.
Does my family need to download an app to see my Christmas list?
Not with Jinnie. The link opens in any browser. To reserve a gift from the web, a relative enters a name and email and taps one confirmation link; there is no account or password.
How do I stop two people buying the same Christmas gift?
Use a list with reservations. When one person reserves an item, everyone else sees it as Reserved and picks something else. In Jinnie, other gift-givers never see who reserved it.
Can I make a Christmas list for my child?
Yes. Create the list in your own Jinnie account, name it after your child, and share the link with relatives. Because the list is yours, your child does not see what has been reserved. To see it yourself, turn on "Show reserved items" in your settings.
Can I add gifts from Amazon and other stores to one list?
Yes. Paste a product link from Amazon or any other store and Jinnie fills in the title, image and price for most shops. If a shop hides those details, type them in or add your own photo.
Does Jinnie work for Secret Santa?
For the lists, yes. Jinnie does not draw names, so use Elfster, DrawNames or Giftster for the draw and send your Santa your Jinnie list link.
When should I share my Christmas list?
Early to mid-November suits most families: early shoppers can plan, and you can still update the list after Black Friday sales before most people buy.
